Watching El Nino Signals from the Ops Desk

CNN Weather is tracking rising odds of a strong El Nino pattern, and that kind of climate signal is not just background noise. Weather volatility has a way of turning into an operations problem through power instability, regional traffic shifts, and supply-chain delays.

For service owners, the useful response is not panic. It is checking whether failover still works, whether status pages explain regional degradation clearly, and whether monitoring can distinguish a real incident from a noisy external event.

I am treating this as a reminder to review dependencies outside the codebase: DNS providers, cloud regions, backup power, and the humans who get paged when the physical world leaks into the stack.
